Editor for the report for APPG Group on HIV and AIDS, November 2014
Five years have passed since the APPG’s Treatment Timebomb report was published. Since then the AIDS response has moved on considerably with a decrease of 35% in AIDS-related deaths since 2005 and a vast improvement in access to first line treatment in LMICS. However, we should not allow these positive figures to mask the alarming truth that 1.6 million people died from AIDS-related causes in 2012.

In addition, we have identified many positive data trends and captured a wide range of lessons learnt to support future organisations and initiatives.

The Crown Estate has just secured planning permission to redevelop two substantial office blocks on Regent Street. In total the buildings, known as W4 and W5 South, comprise 190,000 square feet of office space. The development also includes 70,000 square feet of retail space.

Battersea Power Station’s redevelopment plans have been given first-stage approval by planning officials in Wandsworth Council. The council stated that the project would bring major regeneration to the Nine Elms area, creating thousands of new jobs and accommodation, but that much more work was necessary before it could be given the final go-ahead.
